South River is a community of 1,100 located on Highway 11, just a half-hour south of North Bay and two-and-a-half hours north of Toronto. Tourism is a major part of the economy. The town is the canoeing and kayaking gateway to Algonquin Park and its second busiest access point, after Highway 60. The local skating arena has year-round ice and hosts Ontario’s premier sports camp, The Hockey Opportunity Camp. In addition to offering a range of business services and amenities for local residents, South River is home to the famous Bear Chair Company and Swift Canoes and Kayaks.
