Gore BayIsland Living at its Finest
Manitoulin Island is the largest fresh water island in the world at 2,766 km2, and has a permanent population of 12,600. Visitors flock to the area every summer to enjoy its natural beauty and water activities. The island service centre is Gore Bay, a community of almost 900 people. It is the judicial centre of the island and one of its commercial and professional centres. It has an airport, museums, library, curling club, arena and several service clubs and organizations. Residents and visitors access the island via a swing bridge year-round, or with the daily passenger-vehicle ferry from Tobermory between late May and early October. There are two incorporated communities (Gore Bay and Little Current) and six Anishinabee First Nation communities on Manitoulin Island.
